Mask workshop

My Pandemic Statement

In the middle of the pandemic, I decided to create a workshop that would emphasis on the different parts of our bodies and the way we take for granted our senses. This time it was the talk of the town to wash our hands, to not rub our eyes, to wear a mask and avoid spitting, sneezing in order to protect others and yourself. Throughout the lockdown I repeatedly heard the same words used for collective emotions such as anxiety, depression, uncertainty, loneliness, stress… yet I wondered if other “nameless” emotions existed and how to name them in order to transform them and make something out of them. This was the trigger for this pandemic gathering. It was my first experience giving a workshops on line via zoom and that made me quite nervous but to my surprise, I had people from Sweden, Peru and Mexico and together we found a common ground of playfulness and absurd logic through movement, technology and masks. We managed to space our sessions in order to have time to really indulge in the process of making them which also turned out to be quite therapeutical. By the end the task was to play on zoom in duos and let the masks have a brief encounter, it was super exciting!.
This is the out come of my mask:

THE EYE
“The soul, fortunately, has an interpreter – often an unconscious but still a faithful interpreter – in the eye.”
― Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre
